Yell for the Youth

Community Service, Inc. (CSI) welcomes the public to its inaugural Yell for the Youth event Friday, July 6 from 10 am to 2 pm at their office located at 1408 East 8th St in Danville across from Sonic. The day will be filled with activities including a free bounce house for children and a dunk tank with three throws for one dollar. CSI will also make available to the first 250 people from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm free Petit Jean Meat hot dogs, chips and drinks. Smokey the Bear will also make an appearance and be available for photographs from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. “CSI has provided services to youth for 60 years,” said Dr. Susan Okroglic president/CEO of CSI. “CSI wanted to provide a fun event for Yell County youth, and provide a way for more people to learn about our services. “

This meeting will allow those who are beginning or thinking of beginning beekeeping to gain very valuable knowledge that will help them avoid stumbling blocks that will occur when beginning beekeeping, it will also allow the experienced beekeeper to gain new ideas to improve their operation.

Neighbor's Table

All are welcome to attend this no pressure, no questions asked free lunch. Doors open at 11:30am. Fresh coffee is served and then lunch is served at 12pm to 1pm.

In addition to the wholesome and delicious hot FREE LUNCH served two other offerings for our Neighbors are now available: Guests who come for lunch can now pick up a sack lunch to take with them and have a second free meal; and, after lunch, there are usually “take-outs” available (and, as always, generous portions of “seconds” are served before dessert.)

Also, the clergy and people of All Saints’ have begun a new “Loaves and Fishes” ministry, with Sunday morning offerings at the altar now including necessities like cereal, peanut butter, shelf-stable milk, toilet paper, toiletries, hand soap, and detergent. The available items gifted each Sunday will be distributed on the following Saturday to Neighbors Table guests after the meal.

You can explore nature at this park because Lake Dardanelle State Park’s diverse habitats sustain many living creatures. Many of those creatures are active only at night. Explore the night life here at Lake Dardanelle State Park. Join a park interpreter at the amphitheater and discover some of the tricks nocturnal inhabitants of the park use to get around at night.

Lake Dardanelle State Park is providing an opportunity on National River Cleanup Day for people to come together to make a big impact. Volunteers are needed for our Annual Arkansas River Cleanup from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The amount of trash and debris collected and removed on this day will improve the health of wildlife, people, and habitat of our local waterways year round.

Rock House Cave Hike

Meet Park Interpreter Matt at the Rock House Cave parking area to hike to the park’s archeology site, Rock House Cave. We will view American Indian rock art. This hike is ¼-mile long and will take about 45 minutes. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring along water.

Take a hike through Mount Nebo State Park's history with a park interpreter! Learn about the luxurious Summit Park Hotel that burned down in 1918, and explore the Civilian Conservation Corps role in the development of Mount Nebo State Park in the 1930s. This approximate 1-mile hike will be strenuous. Be sure to bring plenty of water and wear sturdy shoes.

Lovers' Leap and the legend surrounding it is a part of the tradition of Mount Nebo State Park. Bring plenty of water, and wear sturdy shoes.

Meet Park Interpreter Sam at the Richter Memorial Overlook on Red Bluff Drive and take a short stroll to the CCC Overlook where you can watch the sunset from one of the most scenic locations in the park. Bring a flashlight for the walk back to your car. Sunset is at approximately 8:29 p.m.

Lake Cruise

Explore the wonders of Lake Dardanelle and the Arkansas River aboard the state park tour boat (weather permitting). Enjoy abundant wildlife, amazing history, and astounding views of the river valley throughout this 1-hour cruise. There is no fee for the tour, but space is limited. You must register for the tour. Call (479) 967-5516 to register for a seat. We begin boarding 15 minutes before the tour, at the boat dock near the south boat ramp.

While many of us don't view them as food, some insects are considered part of a healthy diet all over the world! Come to the Mather Lodge breezeway to meet Park Interpreter Sam and learn about some of the unique traits that define bugs, and try some for yourself! You don’t have to eat any to attend, but those who do will become official members of the “I Ate a Bug” club, and receive a certificate!
