Arkansas State Parks Events This Weekend
Bat populations are in decline due to misinformation and fear. Meet a park interpreter at the amphitheater to discover the bat myths that have given them a bad reputation and learn which bats you can find here at Lake Dardanelle State Park.
The Arkansas River creates many recreational opportunities for us to enjoy. Join Lake Dardanelle State Park staff for O.W.L.S. (Outdoor Women Learning Skills), a program series designed to give ladies the opportunity to explore the available recreation at Lake Dardanelle and the surrounding area, by learning skills and knowledge needed to enjoy nature. The series is one evening a month for 6 months, you can come to 1 or come to them all. Each month we will cover a new topic. Preregistration is required for each date and includes dinner.
Lake Dardanelle State Park’s diverse habitats provide homes for many creatures large and small. Join a park interpreter in the kid’s corner of the visitor center as she tells you about some of the smaller creatures. She is also feeding these creatures, so come discover the small native wonders around us.
Explore the wonders of Lake Dardanelle and the Arkansas River aboard the state park tour boat (weather permitting). Enjoy abundant wildlife, amazing history, and astounding views of the river valley throughout this 1-hour cruise. There is no fee for the tour, but space is limited. You must register for the tour. Call (479) 967-5516 to register for a seat. We will begin boarding 15 minutes before the tour, at the boat dock near the south boat ramp.
Lake Dardanelle has a healthy and diverse aquatic environment, but what lives in the lake other than fish and turtles? Join a park interpreter at the kayak beach to seine for macro-invertebrates and find out. Wear water shoes and clothing that can get wet.
Have you ever wondered how Mount Nebo got its name? How some of the trails were built? What about how it became a state park? Join a park interpreter to explore the history of Mount Nebo!
Mount Nebo State Park is home to a multitude of wildflowers that are lots of different shapes, sizes, and colors that bloom for a short time before fading away to the next lineup of wildflowers. Join a park interpreter on an easy to moderate hike to see what wildflowers are blooming now! Don’t forget your favorite field guide, sturdy shoes, and water!
Join a park interpreter for a hike to Nebo Springs, one of the natural springs on Mount Nebo that was well known in the late 1800s and early 1900s during the Summit Park Hotel era. This strenuous, but enjoyable hike is ¾-mile long. Wear sturdy shoes, and bring plenty of water.
Join Park Interpreter BT to see a beautiful Petit Jean State Park spring sunset and to learn about the planetary movement that gives us the seasons of the year. The sun sets at approximately 7:42 p.m.
Join Park Interpreter Carrie for an interesting walk amongst the giant sandstone boulders and slot canyons of the Bear Cave area. This is a relatively easy ½-mile hike that is great for the whole family. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring water.
Join Park Interpreter BT for this easy, handicap accessible, ¼-mile stroll. We will talk about some of the things that make Petit Jean State Park a special place, as well as enjoy the view of Cedar Falls from the overlook. Please bring water to drink.
