Sunset Cinema: The Sandlot

This summer will mark the 13th season of Sunset Cinema, which aims to enhance the quality of life in the Russellville area by bringing together members of the community.

Sunset Cinema is an outdoor movie theater which operates on the lawn of the Lake Dardanelle Visitor's Center. This event is FREE TO THE PUBLIC. These family-friendly events brought over 2000 attendees last year. The two showings scheduled this summer are on Friday, June 7, The Greatest Showman,  and Friday, June 14, The Sandlot. Each showing will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. Activities will take place prior to each showing starting at 7 p.m.

IN THE EVENT OF RAIN SUBSEQUENT DATES HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED.

The Rotary Club of Russellville does many incredible things in the community. Help us continue to do so as well as expand our reach through your participation in our inaugural Zero K (and dog walk!) fundraiser. “It’s all the fun without the run!”

For your $25 entry ($5 per dog!) you will be able to take on our challenging zero kilometer course and receive a “Zero K” t-shirt as well as a 0.0 sticker for the family car! A Whole Lotta Fun has donated a bump & jump for the kiddos to play on ($5 for unlimited jump time!) and FREE face painting will be available to children as well.

It’s all in fun, but the projects (like Hoops for Hunger, which provides hundreds of thousands of meals to food insecure locals every year) which will be carried out by the Rotary Club of Russellville throughout the year are no joke.

Coming back to the Center for the Arts, Saturday, June 15th @ 7 PM . . .On a Summers Night!  Join some of Arkansas' finest musicians in an evening of music from Motown to Metal.  This event is a fund raising concert to benefit Arkansas Center for Music Education.  Be prepared to hear favorites from such artists as Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, the Temptations, and Michael McDonald all the way to Queen, TOTO, STYX, Loverboy, and BonJovi.  Feel free to sing along with the band or get up and dance!

Don't miss this feel-good musical journey with DJ Rich Mann (Richard Minnick) led by musical director Brian Faulkner, technical director Larry Roberts and these musicians: Mike Lovelady, Andy Lindemann, James Primm, Jeff Sweeden, Wren Whiteseven, Zac George, Shirley Faulkner, Emory Molitor, Mark Gotcher, Coralin Daavaler, Joe Cross, Bill Parton, Brice Gunter, Mike Ridgeway, and Tyler Petty.  The Community Festival Chorale, Arkansas Center for Music Education's local community choir, will also join on several songs.

SUNSET CINEMA - THE SANDLOT

The Russellville Area Chamber of Commerce, which aims to enhance the quality of life in the Russellville area by bringing together members of the community, will present Sunset Cinema. Sunset Cinema is an outdoor movie theater which operates on the lawn of the Lake Dardanelle State Park visitor center. Gates open at 7 p.m., and the movie will begin at sunset. This is a free event.

LAKE CRUISE

Explore the wonders of Lake Dardanelle and the Arkansas River aboard the state park tour boat (weather permitting). Enjoy abundant wildlife, amazing history, and astounding views of the river valley throughout this 1-hour cruise. There is no fee for the tour, but space is limited. You must register for the tour. Call (479) 967-5516 to register for a seat. We will begin boarding 15 minutes before the tour, at the boat dock near the south boat ramp.

Mount Nebo State Park is a fantastic place to watch fireflies. These bioluminescent insects flash and flitter in the park all summer. Join a park interpreter to discover more about the fantastic flittering flashing firefly!

Join Park Interpreter Carrie for an enlightening hike down and around the picturesque Cedar Creek Trail (Note: this trail does not lead to the waterfall). This moderately strenuous trail is 1 ¼-mile long. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring along some water.

NIGHT HIKE AT ROCK HOUSE CAVE

Meeting Place: Rock House Cave Parking Area
Saturday, June 15, 2019, from 8:15 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Admission: Free

Join Park Interpreter Ross for this night hike down to the park’s archeology site: Rock House Cave. We will view ancient, mysterious rock art and imagine what life was like for the American Indians who created it. Please bring your flashlight.

OWL PROWL

Meeting Place: Historic CCC Room in Mather Lodge

Admission: Free

Meet Park Interpreter Carrie to discover more about the nocturnal birds of prey called owls that make Petit Jean State Park their home. We will be taking a short walk down Cedar Falls Trail to see if we can call in a few of these nighttime birds. Please bring a flashlight and wear close-toed shoes. This program lasts about 45 minutes.

BEAR CAVE HIKE

Meeting Place: Bear Cave Parking Area
Sunday, June 16, 2019, from 9 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.
Admission: Free

Join Park Interpreter Ross for an interesting walk among the giant sandstone boulders and slot canyons of the Bear Cave area. This is a relatively easy ½-mile hike that is great for the whole family. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring water.

ROCK HOUSE CAVE HIKE

Meeting Place: Rock House Cave Parking Area
Sunday, June 16, 2019, from 11 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.
Admission: Free

Meet Park Interpreter Ross to hike to the park’s archeology site, Rock House Cave. We will view American Indian rock art and discover more about the windows into the past that these images provide.

CCC STROLL

Meeting Place: Boathouse Breezeway
Sunday, June 16, 2019, from 2 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Admission: Free

Meet Park Interpreter Carrie for a stroll through the picnic area. We will be taking a walk back into time to see what life was like for the Civilian Conservation Corps on the mountain. The walk is about a 1/2-mile long and will take around 30 minutes. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and water!
