The Big Boy's return to the rails is the product of more than two years of meticulous restoration work by the Union Pacific Steam Team. No. 4014 is the world's only operating Big Boy locomotive.

Heath Sanders will be performing at the Ozark Heritage Arts Center  November 16th at 7pm. The proceeds from this concert will benefit Diane Grider. Ms. Diane Grinder is a lifelong resident of Searcy County and has been employed by St. Joe Public School for 13 1/2 years. She was first diagnosed with cancer when she was 15. She then went into remission for 40 years.
Much to the chagrin of her many friends and colleagues, Diane’s cancer has returned.  She faces frequent trips to medical facilities for costly treatments and procedures.
Diane is a devout Christian and a devoted wife and mother to her daughter, Victoria, and her son, Tytus, and she selflessly works with the students of St. Joe School, primarily to meet the remediation needs of struggling students. Diane always has an optimistic attitude and a spirit of support for her community. She is eager to assist anyone in a time of need.
Diane is truly deserving of any support from her extended community.

Basket making using oak and river cane splits, was an important task for early inhabitants of the river valley. Weave your own Williamsburg Basket in this hands-on class and reflect on those who lived in this area before it was a state park. Bring a sack lunch or plan to visit a local restaurant. The registration fee covers the cost of materials. Class size is limited, preregistration is required.

Learn about the luxurious Summit Park Hotel that burned down in 1918, and explore the Civilian Conservation Corps role in the development of Mount Nebo State Park in the 1930s. This approximately 1-mile long hike will be strenuous. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water.

Sunset Point at Mount Nebo State Park gives visitors an exquisite view of the Arkansas River Valley and the surrounding mountains. It doesn't have to be sunset to enjoy the views, though! Join a park interpreter on a moderately difficult 2.5-mile hike to experience the magnificent view from Sunset Point and the Rim Trail! Wear sturdy shoes and bring water.
