Next week, we will start a new feature on our blog -- just for the Fall! Highlighting Arkansas fall foliage. We'll let you know the peak color times of each region of the state. Check our blog Monday as we start following the changing colors from the Ozarks to central Arkansas, to the Ouachita mountain range of west central Arkansas, to the southern and eastern parts of the state.  In the meantime, here is our hand-picked list of events taking place this weekend. There are many, many other events we didn't have room to list. In particular, check with the Arkansas State Parks websites for family-friendly outdoor events year round.


Diamond City Byway Festival

This is a come one, come all community event filled with fun, delicious food, kayak competitions, prize raffles, lots of clear blue Bull Shoals Lake water accessibility and used treasures (garage sale items)! Motorcyclists won't want to miss this stretch of curvaceous roadway and small town hospitality.

Ozark Folklife Festival

Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Tyler Bend Pavilion, 170 Ranger Rd, St. Joe, AR

A day of traditional Ozark food, music, and demonstrations. Enjoy BBQ or ham and beans with cornbread, while listening to fiddlers play or watching how wool is turned into yarn and felt or learning the process of making an instrument, like a mandolin.

Fall Festival & 6th Annual Sweet Potato Pie Bake-Off

Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone Movie

Come dressed as your favorite character for the 20th anniversary, free screening of the first Harry Potter movie during Spa-Con. Spa-Con is a multiple-genre comics and science fiction convention sponsored by Visit Hot Springs and the Garland County Library. There will be a welcoming address from Headmaster, Hestia McGonagall, O.M. (First Class), Grand Sorc., Member of the International Confederation of Wizards, Pioneer of Wandless Work. Some of Spa-Con’s special guests will be on hand for the movie screening. Among the celebrity guests already announced for Spa-Con are Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey Horne) and Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer) from the “Twin Peaks” television series, and Shannon Purser, who plays Barb on the ‘Stranger Things’ series. 

Matt Maher Concert

Eight-time Grammy-nominated contemporary Christian singer and songwriter Matt Maher will perform a concert at University of the Ozarks as part of the university’s 2017-18 Walton Arts & Ideas Series (WAIS). The concert, which begins at 6 p.m. on the campus mall, is being held in conjunction with Family Weekend. The public is invited to attend and there is no cost for admission. Guests are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs.

Music in the Park

Hartman City Park, Hartman AR

The City of Hartman will sponsor a free Music in the Park event Sat, Sept 23 beginning at 5pm. Music will be provided by Ozark River Ramblers of Huntsville, Next Generation (Nowotny/Owens/Stewart gospel music), Silvercreek Band of Clarksville and Mark & Jeb Willborg of Oden. Classic antique cars are welcome. Concessions of hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks will be provided by Boy Scout Troop 76 and shuttle service will also be provided. The public is invited to attend and encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Donations accepted.

Chris Long At The Tavern

Recently discovered by at Bonnaroo, Chris Long built his foundation of blues and rock'n roll in the Little Rock blues jam scene. The singer went on to front several local and regional acts, playing at Austin Music Week, Riverfest, as well as the semifinals of the Arkansas Times Musicians Showcase. He will debut acoustic versions of new songs that he is writing for his upcoming indie pop act, along with favorites from his previous projects and modern covers.

Hickory Hill Park Gospel Music

20th Annual Petit Jean Fall Swap Meet

Indigenous Textile Exhibit- Meet the Artist

Dr. William Clary, professor of Spanish at University of the Ozarks, will present his collection of traditional Andean and Maya textiles as part of the University’s Artist of the Month Series. The exhibit will be on display in the Stephens Gallery through Sept. 26. There will be a reception to meet the artist from 5-6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, in the gallery. Clary, who has taught at the University since 2006, said the collection of woven items are a part of a much larger collection of woven indigenous textiles he collected in Bolivia and Guatemala during trips he took to both countries between 1980-85.
